PUB RESTORED INTO A CHURCH - Salem Danville, Pretoria, South Africa

FROM PUB TO CHURCH

Salem Danville's first service was under a carport on the 1st of March 2009 with 6 people. We started because the people of Danville spoke a need of a Biblical, relevant and alive church.

In December of 2009 we took over an old pub in Danville and renovated it into our church - a miracle done by God! Today we minister to about 100 people, 30 teenagers and 60 children.
Danville is a poor area in Pretoria West, South Africa - unique in a sense that there is poor people of all cultures and races.

Our vision - to bring His Peace and restoration to the people of Danville. To show them that your circumstances do not dictate God's love for you. Jesus loves all, no matter who you are, what you've done, or how much money you have!

Share the joy of ministering to the poor with us in this blog!

Coffee with God

We decided to take the commandment of making disciples seriously and we are presenting a foundational course in Christianity on Sunday evenings. Each person received a file last week and every week they receive new notes. They are also encouraged to share their new knowledge with somebody in the week.

Sunday evening we again realized the amazing work Jesus has done for us! The fact that He gave His life so that we can stand in relationship with our Father!

I love my Father with my whole heart and I take this relationship very literally. Sunday I shared how I sometimes take God for coffee…

Last week God did a miracle for us by providing in a big way for a big problem we had. I went to a coffee shop, ordered 2 cups of coffee and thanked Him for providing for us in such a big way. I also opened my Bible and read the portions of my daily reading plan. It started with 1 Chronicles 1. Now if you know the Bible, you would know that it is all about genealogies.

At one stage I said to God that the conversation was not very interesting. It was as if He just smiled and He asked me what one of my greatest heart desires was. I told Him about my desire to have a piece of land or bigger church in Danville. There was no response, so I just went back to the genealogies in Chronicles. My eyes scanned through the chapters, until I got to this verse:

1 Chronicles 4:10(MSG):
10…Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: "Bless me, O bless me! Give me land, large tracts of land. And provide your personal protection—don't let evil hurt me." God gave him what he asked.

I knew this verse, but forgot that it was hidden between all the genealogies. What an amazing God! What an amazing answer and promise!

Take God for coffee! He will speak to you and He will even give His cup of coffee to you!

Shalom!
Anina
