I love the weapons God gives us to protect ourselves.
Ephesians 6:14-17(NIV)14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
It seems that every vulnerable part of the body is protected except for the back. To attack someone from behind can be very easy if there is no protection. So I always wondered what kind of protection God provides for our backs.
I found the answer in Isaiah 58:8(NLT)
8 …and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.
Isn’t it wonderful to know that the glory of the Lord protect us from behind!
There is however a pre-requisite for this glory. It is all about the kind of fasting that is acceptable for the Lord that we find in the rest of this chapter. Verse 7 says that the kind of fasting the Lord chooses is to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor with shelter. That when you see the naked, to clothe them. Then your light will break forth like the dawn and your healing will quickly appear, your righteousness will go before you and the glory of the LORD will protect you from behind!
It touches God’s heart when you look after the poor. But you can also rely on His protection, especially from behind!
